It was a superb weekend for Bob Jane T-Marts at Sandown in the latest round of the Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship as Aaron Love entered title calculations after scoring two victories.
Love continued his success from The Bend Motorsport Park at Sandown by setting a practice record, pole position and two race victories at the home circuit for Sonic Motor Racing Services and Bob Jane T-Marts. Love finished second in the first race, but added two victories as he climbed to fifth in the championship despite missing two rounds.
“It’s been an awesome weekend at Sandown,” said Love.
“I got pole, which was nice, especially in the wet tricky conditions. We struggled a little in the first race, which was probably more down to myself not driving well enough.
“After that, it was mega. To get the two race wins and really show what the car is capable of is a true credit to the Sonic team. They have been putting in so much effort.
“When you look at the car off the track, it’s spotless. When it’s on the track, it’s a rocket ship.
“I’m looking forward to Bathurst now and see what we can pull out of the bag." T he West Australian was ably backed up by Simon Fallon as he broke through to score his maiden Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship round podium highlighted by a Bob Jane T-Marts/Sonic 1-2 in the 31-lap mini enduro.
“It’s been a very good weekend for both of the Bob Jane T-Marts cars,” said Fallon.
“I messed up the last race, but still finished fifth, recovered strong and finished second for the weekend. It’s my best result in Carrera Cup, so I’m really stoked about that.
“I feel like this is the best I’ve been driving, and we’ll keep our eyes forward and look forward to the next round at Bathurst.”
After a decade away from competition at Sandown, Rodney Jane was a top five contender in the Tag Heuer Pro-Am category for most of the weekend, albeit his weekend was hampered by incidents.
“It was my first race back here at Sandown in about 10 years, and I had a pretty mixed weekend,” said Jane.
“It took me a while to get into it, but by the first race, I was within a shout of Aaron and Simon’s times, and I was reasonably happy with that.
“Sunday, it was a mixed bag of lollies. Someone spun in front of me, I clipped them and broke my steering. That put me out of the race, and then in Race 3, I started dead last, and I lost time with a mixed up Safety Car.
“But I’ll put it all down to more learning in these new cars and now looking forward to heading back to Bathurst."
Focus now turns to the hallowed Mount Panorama circuit at Bathurst on October 6-9 where the Bob Jane T-Marts entries will aim to continue this form.
