    AUSTRALIA'S LARGEST INDEPENDENT TYRE RETAILER

    Racing History

From humble roots in the inner Melbourne suburb of Brunswick, Bob Jane grew up to be a tough and determined young man. In the early 1950’s he started his love of racing as a champion cyclist.

In the late 1950’s, he started his first business, Bob Jane Autoland, which specialised in spare parts for Jaguar and Alfa Romeo. Through this venture, he realised his undeniable passion for cars. Before long, the glamour and excitement of the motor racing world took hold and he never looked back.

He first entered competitive racing in 1956. By the early 1960’s, it seemed Bob left everybody in his dust as he sped his way to the top of Australian sedan racing. In 1961 he and co-driver, Harry Firth, won the Armstrong 500 (later known as the Bathurst 1000) at Phillip Island, an achievement they were to repeat in 1962 and 1963 at Bathurst. Bob then teamed up with George Reynolds to again win in 1964.

In 1962 and 1963 Bob won back-to-back Australian Touring Car Championships, a feat he was to able repeat when he won in both 1971 and 1972 again. Overall, after 38 Australian Touring Car Championship career starts, he finished on the podium an impressive 21 times.

Bob firmly believed the difference between winning and losing lay in choosing the right equipment, especially tyres. He soon became recognised as a tyre expert and it wasn’t long before he was inundated with enquiries about tyres – not only within the racing fraternity but the public as well.

The Beginning of Bob Jane T-Marts

In 1964, the first Bob Jane Tyre retail store was opened in Haberfield NSW. After this store’s success, the next Bob Jane Tyre Retail store opened in Melbourne in 1965. These stores became the basis for the venture that would in the early 70’s, evolve into Australia’s leading independent tyre and wheel retailer that we know today as Bob Jane T-Marts.

As the business expanded, Bob continued his relationship with motor racing, running the Australian Grand Prix from Calder Park Raceway and introducing stock car racing to Australia.

The first franchised Bob Jane T-Marts store opened in Artarmon NSW in 1972, complete with the iconic Bob Jane T-Marts branding. By the end of the 1970’s, Bob Jane T-Marts had grown to a network of almost 30 outlets Australia wide.

The 80’s and 90’s saw continued growth and expansion into every Australian state, by this time Bob Jane T-Marts was a household name with a national network of over 130 T-Marts.

    Passing the Mantle

In 1991, Bob’s son Rodney began his career in the family business, working at Calder Park Raceway. Eventually, he moved into the T-Mart Cadetship program and started work as a Tyre Fitter at the Ferntree Gully T-Mart. He spent the next few years working his way through the program carrying out various roles in stores. In 1999, he joined the Management team of Bob Jane Corporation.

Rodney was fortunate to have a great teacher in his father because, in early 2002, he was appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer of Bob Jane Corporation. The determination and dedication of Rodney, together with the guidance of the National Support Team, in particular, Alex Chung and Peter Hamden, alongside the many Franchisees and their families, have ensured Bob Jane T-Marts is the market leader in our industry.

    Bob Jane T-Marts Today

More than half a century after the first store opened its doors, Bob Jane T-Marts remains an independent, family-owned business, with a national network of franchised and company-owned tyre stores Australia wide.

Together with an extensive range of the world’s best-branded quality tyres, the company stocks a broad range of wheels and reliable batteries for passenger vehicles, 4WDs, vans and light trucks. Our expert wheel alignment and wheel balancing services use the latest in computerised technology, making sure Bob Jane T-Marts keeps you safe on the road for longer.
