The trio of Bob Jane T-Marts Porsches have endured the highs and lows of motorsport in the penultimate round of the Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship on the Gold Coast.
Simon Fallon continued to lead the way for Team Sonic and Bob Jane T-Marts by qualifying 13th before a chaotic opening race led to an 11th finish in Pro Class. Moving forward in the endurance event on Sunday morning gave Fallon seventh, but he was a victim of an incident in front leading to significant damage, which forced him out of the final race.
While happy with the overall speed of his car, he says that there were some missed opportunities.
"We were quick the whole weekend, but we got unlucky with a curb strike in qualifying,” Fallon said.
“If that time had stood, we should have been in the top three and that completely changes your weekend, but that's not what happened and we really had to fight for everything.
"We made up a few spots in the races, the car speed was there and we were really quick.
"In the second race, I'd passed four of five cars and all of a sudden, I was run into by Davison at Turn 4. I lost spots there, picked more up, but then the weekend ended very quickly. I just was in a position where I had nowhere to go and I was caught up in the big pile up.
"Because of the red flag, we were classified seventh, which was our best result for the weekend. Unfortunately, the car came home on a truck and our weekend was done.
"The cars were quick, which was great, and the team did an awesome job all weekend. I can't thank our Sonic crew enough for everything they gave us."
It was a solid finish for Angelo Mouzouris as he qualified 14th, but had to claw his way back from an opening race retirement to move back to 13th before finishing 10th in the final event of the weekend.
Mouzouris was also happy with the progress that the team made with the pace of his car.
“To say it was an interesting weekend is probably a brief description,” Mouzouris summarised.
“Race 1 was an absolute mess. We got in an incident where other drivers were trying to win it on lap 1 and it resulted in a DNF.
“Rolling on to Race 2, I had a good start and a spun back marker was parked in the middle of the road causing a collision and I had to make my way back during the endurance race.
“The last race was good, I kept it straight and we ended up quick in the mid-part of the race to finish 10th.
“A massive thanks to Bob Jane T-Marts and Sonic Motor Racing Services for the continued hard work and support.
“Hopefully moving into Adelaide we can display the speed we found in Race 3 and finish with a strong result.”
It proved a tough weekend for Rodney Jane in the Pro-Am Class as he started seventh in Race 1 to finish fourth, then was sixth four laps down in the second endurance event as damage incurred prevented him from returning to the track for the third event.
The final round of the Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship will be held on the streets of Adelaide on November 23-26.
