The annual pilgrimage to Bathurst's Mount Panorama for Bob Jane T-Marts welcomed an improved performance at Australia’s biggest national motor racing event for Round 6 of the Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Championship.
The three Bob Jane T-Marts-supported Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car Type 992.1s fielded by Sonic Motor Racing Services headed to Bathurst with improved form after finishing strongly at Sandown.
Simon Fallon once again led the way as he charged from 18th on the grid to be 12th after Race 1, before forging his way into 10th in the second event.
Further improving to seventh at the end of Race 3 bodes well for the next round on the Gold Coast.
“It’s been an up and down weekend as usual,” Fallon summarised.
“We struggled in qualifying, but we managed to pass a lot of cars, worked out what we needed to fix and moved on from there, so that’s always positive.
“We learnt a lot this weekend about not just myself, but about the car as well.
“I’m really looking forward to the Gold Coast and starting on a high there.
“Rodney celebrated 200 races this weekend was a really cool achievement, but unfortunately the race didn’t go the way he wanted. That was a shame, but he’ll definitely move forward from it and he has a strong mentality, so he’ll be moving forward.”
Angelo Mouzouris also had to comeback from a disappointing qualifying result, but demonstrated resilience and tenacity across the weekend.
Finishing 13th in Race 1, Mouzouris climbed to 11th in the second and rose to ninth in the finale to cap off a solid weekend.
“Always good to be here at Mount Panorama, an awesome track,” said Mouzouris.
“These Cup Cars are quite quick around here, so it was pretty cool to build up to it across the weekend. It’s quite different to what I have driven around here before, it was a lot quicker than a Supercar across the top!
“Qualifying wasn’t the greatest, we didn’t maximise our lap and ended up midfield. Race 1 and 2 were quite good, we slowly moved up the field to be 11th by the end of the second, before moving up further spots to be ninth.
“It was hard to pass here at the Mountain so being able to put a move at The Chase was cool.
“Big thanks to Bob Jane T-Marts for its continued support and Sonic Motor Racing Services for the great car all weekend.
“Coming out with a clean round and finally being able to put our speed together was good. We know we’ve got a pretty quick car on the Gold Coast, Aaron (Love) smoked them last year, so It’ll be great to get into it.”
Celebrating his 200th Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Championship race in the second event for the round, Rodney Jane endured a tough weekend at the Mountain.
An off-track excursion in Race 1 led to a retirement, but in his 200th an opening lap incident on Mountain Straight resulted in a DNF. Jane did not take the start in the final race due to damage.
The Gold Coast street circuit hosts the penultimate round of the Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Championship on October 27-29.
