Bob Jane T-Marts leave Bathurst wanting more

The Repco Bathurst 1000 event left the Bob Jane T-Marts’ trio of drivers wanting more at what was Round 6 of the Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship.

Just making it through the round was an achievement for the three Bob Jane T-Marts Porsches due to the amount of incidents and attrition throughout.

This was no more highlighted than in qualifying when there were multiple red flags including one caused by Rodney Jane. Many drivers were caught out by the interruptions resulting in a failure to set a respective lap time, which featured Angelo Mouzouris and Marcos Flack.

Mouzouris led the way for the team throughout the weekend as he slogged hard to gain crucial points towards the end of the season.

Starting off with a 13th in the 45-minute opening mini-enduro after being taken out by another competitor, Mouzouris went on to score 14th in a heavily interrupted second race and saved the best for last by recording a seventh.

Flack failed to finish the first race after gravel on the track forced a number of competitors off track, then it proved a tough weekend from there. Flack scored 11th in Race 2 and had further contact from a competitor in the last to score 14th.

Consistency was the name of the game for Jane as he recovered well to finish fourth in each race and secure third for the round, though his margin in the Pro-Am standings has closed.

The Bob Jane T-Marts-supported Sonic Motor Racing Services trio will next do battle on the Gold Coast Street Circuit on October 24-26.

“Overall, we’ve got to take the positives from the weekend as we were very, very fast in the races,” said Mouzouris.

“We just didn’t manage qualifying well with the red flags, so we didn’t complete a push lap and I had to start in the back.

“Race 1 was awesome. We got into sixth, but got taken out on the restart.

“Race 2 was a non-event, there was a safety car for much of the race and in the last race we started 12th moving through to seventh by the end.

“Lots of pace, the car is fast and I can’t wait for the Gold Coast.”

“The car is straight enough and we should be ready to go for the Gold Coast,” said Flack.

“We’ll try and re-group before the Gold Coast after a disappointing weekend at Bathurst.

“Thanks to the team for being behind me and just putting in the work this week because it’s long, long days here for not a lot of laps. Thanks to everyone.”

“Finished third at Bathurst, but will need to skill-up a bit for the next two rounds,” said Jane.

“I didn’t do that well in Qualifying and stuck the car in the wall after hitting a white line, which backed it in. This meant we started last for the first two races, which always makes it tough up here.

“We started with the long race on Friday and finished fourth. The pace wasn’t that good as I was probably trying to get my head back into driving around the track having done about eight laps before the race.

“Fourth was the number as I finished in the same position in the second and third races. I had better pace in the third race and it’s something I can look forward to if I can be fast into the Gold Coast.

“Somehow lucked out a third. I’ve got a bit of work to do between now and the Gold Coast. I have Matt Belford hunting me down for the Pro-Am title and he’s driving really well, so I will have my work cut out to stay in front of him.
